Town of Ethel to hold Cancer Awareness Walk

The town of Ethel will have a walk to raise cancer awareness on Saturday, October 25,at 8:30 a.m. at the pavilion and walking track on Main Street. The event is open to anyone and complimentary water will be provided for all walkers. The event is held in recognition of cancer awareness month, the goals of which are educating the public on cancer prevention and early detection, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and encouraging cancer screenings. Participants are encouraged to wear pink in honor of those who have had or currently have cancer.

This event was the idea of Ethel Alderwoman Kathy Barksdale, who wants to bring the community together for a great cause. Barksdale saw other towns hosting similar events, and thought, “why not?” She believes this is a much-needed opportunity to get Ethel residents involved as a community. “We’re tiny, but we’re here,” said Barksdale. She encourages people to come together and invite others to this first-time event regardless of where they live. She is excited about the event and how it reflects Ethel’s new motto, “we plant love and grow friends.”
