The town of Ethel held their first Cancer Awareness Walk on the morning of October 25 at The Station Pavilion on main street. The event was held in recognition of cancer awareness month, the goals of which are educating the public on cancer prevention and early detection, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and encouraging cancer screenings. Participants walked a mile together on the walking track and enjoyed complementary water, informational flyers, and ink pens and bracelets promoting cancer awareness and encouragement. All participants entered a drawing for a giveaway for which there were seven winners. Supporters of the event and giveaway prize donors were Corvan Greer Construction, Baptist-Attala Hospital, and Sullivan’s. Donations were accepted in support of the American Cancer Society, and the donation box will be available at Ethel Town Hall for donations until Friday, October 31, after which all donations will be mailed to the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society combats cancer through funding research, advocating for cancer-related legislation, and providing patient support services. The Cancer Awareness Walk was the idea of Ethel Alderwoman Kathy Barksdale, who said the event was a success and that it will likely become an annual event.
